Corbett National Park is the Wildlife reserve which has captured the imagination of the tourists with its diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.
The Corbett National Park lies in two districts,they are Nainital and Pauri,situated in the hill state of Uttaranchal in northern India. It covers an area of 521 sq.km and including the neighboring Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary and Reserve Forest areas,it takes the Corbett National Reserve over 1288 sq.km.
The geographical location between the Himalayas and the terai,and the streams,rivers and ridges crisscrossing the terrain gifts Corbett with a variety of landscapes.
Corbett National Park is not only rich in natural resource but it also has a rich treasure of history and cultural heritage. It has long tradition of Conservation,in fact it is the oldest National Park of the Asia and India's first Tiger Reserve.
Elephants can be seen in abundance,Deer is the most commonly sighted animal and there is a wide variety in the Park.
Apart from Tigers some of the other cats which can be seen are leopards,wild cats,leopard cats.
The Park has spectacular bird diversity. More than 50 species of resident and migratory birds have been recorded.
The Corbett National Park has more than 140 tigers and other cat family residents.
The Corbett National Park is a great variety of fauna on account of habitat diversity. It is also has a very rich avifauna and the Zoological Survey of India has recorded over 600 species of birds.
